Bo Nicholson’s journey began in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he grew up with his two brothers, William and Henry. Deeply connected to his hometown, he has spent his entire life in the city, shaping his values and professional path.
After graduating high school, Bo pursued higher education at the University of Georgia, where he earned his degree from the Terry College of Business in 2010. His college years were not just about academics; they also marked the beginning of his involvement in music. He was a member of Mama’s Love, a rock band that toured extensively across the Southeast. Recording at well-known studios like Southern Ground in Atlanta, the band created original music and built lasting relationships in the industry. These formative years taught him essential lessons in teamwork, discipline, and the value of a shared vision, all of which have informed his professional career.
Though his career path moved away from full-time music, Bo continues to stay connected to it. He frequently performs with Steamroom Etiquette, a local cover band in Raleigh, and occasionally reunites with former bandmates for special performances. Music continues to be an essential source of creativity and personal satisfaction in his life.
Bo began his professional career 2012 as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch, where he underwent the firm’s extensive Practice Management Development program. Building his practice from the ground up, he utilized traditional methods such as cold calling, door-to-door outreach, and hosting educational seminars. These experiences shaped his relationship-based approach to financial advising, emphasizing proactive service and long-term client relationships.
In 2016, Bo transitioned to Capital Investment Companies, joining Financial Resource Management (FRM) alongside Greg Hicks and Wanda Cooper. The firm’s client-first culture and emphasis on long-term relationships aligned with his values. Since joining, he has helped FRM expand its reach and serve high-net-worth families and business owners throughout North Carolina, with offices in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Atlantic Beach.
Bo is a Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) and a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor™ (CRPC®), having earned these designations in 2016 and 2013, respectively. He is also a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Course and a member of the President’s Council at Capital Investment Companies, which recognizes top-tier performance and exceptional client service.
In addition to his advisory work, Bo co-hosts a weekly personal finance radio show that airs throughout the Triangle and Crystal Coast. The show covers various financial topics, provides practical advice, and makes financial education more accessible and engaging for the community.
Bo’s financial planning philosophy emphasizes trust, clarity, and a long-term perspective. He focuses on helping clients simplify complex financial situations, minimize tax exposure, and make intentional decisions throughout various stages of life. Whether clients prepare for retirement, transition businesses, or manage family wealth, he provides thoughtful, tailored advice.
On a personal note, Bo married Seely Stephenson in 2018 in Roaring Gap, North Carolina. They now have two children, Grove (born in 2021) and Bill (born in 2023), along with their dog, Parker. Outside work, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and enjoying the North Carolina coast. His love for music remains, and he continues to perform or attend shows whenever possible.
As Bo approaches his tenth year with Capital Investment Companies, he is committed to personal growth and deepening the trust of his clients and colleagues. His journey has been one of building meaningful relationships, and he believes that strong, authentic connections drive lasting success.
